Lest We Forget

Does the reason really matter?

American Myopia

I suppose it's fitting that on the fifth anniversary of 9/11 someone once again takes time out and blames the USA for the worst terror attack in our history. That someone writes in this morning's Roanoke Times:
Why they hate us
Donna Acquaviva

Talking to my brother on 9/11, I said sadly, "Oh, Thom, this could have been prevented."

All I heard at the other end of the phone was a disparaging snort. At the time I didn't mean that the FBI and the CIA weren't sharing information or that no dots were being connected. Nobody knew about that yet. I was talking about a U.S. foreign policy so blind it's a wonder that Colin Powell didn't have to use a white cane and a seeing-eye dog.

The president, in his first speech after 9/11, asked, "Why do they hate us?"

"Oh," I thought, "he's really going to look at what's behind all this. How wonderful."

Wrong again. Not a word about the fact that Osama bin Laden and others had been telling us for years not to support Israel so unquestioningly, or that the Muslims wanted the American military presence out of Saudi Arabia because that's where their holiest shrines are. (

Such complete and utter rubbish.

I receive email regularly these days from people who make the same argument - that had we only changed our ways, Osama would not have felt it necessary to slaughter 2,749 of our countrymen and women on 9/11. And I have to tell you, I no longer have the patience for it.

What this woman and so many others choose to ignore is the fact that these terrorists don't give a damn what our policy is toward Israel. Nor do they want our military out of Saudi Arabia. And as for their holiest shrines, the rubble that was once the most sacred mosque in all the Shiite world (the Askariya shrine in Sammara), a shrine destroyed by Muslim terrorists, attests to the fact that we are more concerned about protecting Muslim holy sites than are the Muslims.

So stop it.

If you truly wanted to know "why they hate us," you'd take time out and listen to what they have to say. They want you dead, lady, because you are who you are. It has nothing to do with George Bush or American foreign policy. It has to do with our western culture, the fact that you're not "a believer," and the re-establishment of the caliphate.

How do you reason with people who want to re-establish a 9th century caliphate?

Personally, I don't give a damn why they hate us. It's enough for me to know that, on the fifth anniversary of 9/11, while authorities are still searching for nearly half of the 2,749 who died in the attacks, Osama still wants to slaughter my children and grandchildren.

You want to show him some love, be my guest. He makes no allowances for dim-witted women. I'm sure we'll be seeing your beheading on al Jazeera soon enough.

Wake up and look around, lady. It's not just us. These animals have attacked buses filled with school children in Jerusalem, coaches loaded with commuters in London, trains packed with men, women, and children in Madrid and New Delhi. Nightclubs in Bali and in Egypt. Hotels in Ankara and in Amman. Mosques - mosques! - filled with Muslim worshippers in Baghdad. The list goes on and on.

You're going to blame George Bush for all that?

Such idiocy as yours was tolerated on 9/10. But no longer. Not while the winds of New York City are still blowing the atomized remains of over 1,000 innocent souls across the five boroughs; Americans whose only crime was their being non-Muslim.

So take your bullshit somewhere else. We have work to do. This human debris needs to be swept from our planet. Once that's done, there'll be time for asking moronic questions like, "Why did they hate us?"

Watch The Tears Flow

A Democrat runs on a platform that includes reducing the tax burden and, once elected, discovers - drat! - that a tax increase is needed instead.

Sound familiar? Like we ain't heard that repeated over and over again?

Today we turn to Newark, New Jersey:
Campaign Vows Meet Reality in Newark

As soon as I read the headline, I knew two things: This story is going to involve a Democrat and he or she is going to "reluctantly be forced" to raise taxes after having promised not to.

But it wasn't until the 22nd paragraph, after the new mayor's heart-rending struggle against overwhelming odds is carefully laid out, that the bomb is dropped:
“All across New Jersey, towns and cities are being forced to raise property taxes to pay for things the state and federal government should be paying for,” said William Dressel, executive director of the New Jersey League of Municipalities.

Homeowners are predictably infuriated by the prospect of writing ever-larger checks to City Hall, especially since many are still digesting a 15 percent tax increase imposed in 2003 that came atop a citywide revaluation of property a year earlier. While the revaluation cut taxes for some, it doubled the burden for others.
"Predictably infuriated." Interesting choice of words. Those homeowners who got suckered into electing a Democrat who promised tax relief should have predicted this outcome.

How many times can you get hit up side the head with a two-by-four before you decide to duck?

History Will Be Less Kind

Bill Clinton and his gang of thugs and miscreants have successfully forced the director of a fictional account of the events leading up to 9/11 to bastardize it:
ABC Debuts Toned - Down Version of 9 / 11 Docudrama
By Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The ABC network on Sunday debuted a newly edited version of its controversial miniseries about events leading up to the September 11 attacks, toning down parts that drew the most fire from leading Democrats who called the film propaganda. (

Since a network TV docudrama has a shorter shelf life than does a Chiquita banana advertised on the same show, this was no major history-altering occasion for the former playboy-in-chief. Still Clinton was able to cow the executives at ABC into muddying up the context of the miniseries. For that he should be proud of himself.

Historians won't be as timid however. We all know now that while Clinton was playing hide-the-cigar with Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office, Osama was blowing up the Khobar Towers, and dragging American soldiers through the streets of Mogadishu, and setting off a massive bomb in the World Trade Center, and destroying two American embassies in Africa, and killing 17 American sailors aboard the USS Cole ...

History will note: For all the "efforts" of our former Commander-in-Chief, Osama bin Ladin and al Qaeda were far stronger in 2001 when Bill Clinton left office than in 1993 when he was inaugurated.

And that when he left office in disgrace, 9/11 was less than eight months away.

Those are facts, pal, that you're not going to excise, no matter how hard you try or who you intimidate.
