The People Win One
On that House bill that would have required that you go through a background check before you could buy a used .22 rifle at a gun show, the people of Virginia have spoken, and your legislators have listened:Gun Show Measure Falters in Va. House

Richmond, Jan. 18 -- A Virginia House committee on Friday defeated an effort to close a major loophole in the state's gun laws, angering families of victims of the Virginia Tech massacre and Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D), who had pushed hard for the law.
The House Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee voted along party lines to kill a requirement that all sellers conduct background checks on firearms buyers at gun shows, a move that makes passing a bill on the checks this year nearly impossible. (link)
To be remembered come election day: Every Democrat on that committee voted in favor of advancing this punitive legislation. The article, of course, devotes a great deal of time to the parents and friends of victims of the Virginia Tech massacre (folks at the Post thought they could use them like dupes to get legislation passed, knowing full well that there was no connection between the circumstances surrounding Seung-hui Cho's purchases of firearms - he passed two background checks; neither firearm was purchased at a gun show - and those gun shows they continue to use as a straw man). Thanks to the members of the committee for beating back this effort to disarm us - again. Those of us who hold our freedoms dear are in your debt.A list of committee members follows. Special thanks go to our delegates here in Southwest Virginia who are looking out for our interests. They being Bill Carrico, Grayson County; Morgan Griffith, Roanoke; Dave Nutter, Montgomery County; Charles Poindexter, Franklin County; and Terry Kilgore, Lee County. It's unclear at this writing why Dan Bowling betrayed us.Delegate Beverly Sherwood (Chairwoman) (R-Winchester)Phone: (804) 698-1029Email: DelBSherwood@house.state.va.us Delegate Scott Lingamfelter (R-Prince William)Phone: (804) 698-1031 Email: DelSLingamfelter@house.state.va.us Delegate Todd Gilbert (R-Woodstock)Phone: (804) 698-1015 Email: DelTGilbert@House.state.va.us Delegate James Shuler (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1012 Email: DelJShuler@house.state.va.us Delegate Dan Bowling (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1003 Email: DelDBowling@house.state.va.us Delegate Morgan Griffith (R-Roanoke)Phone: (804) 698-1008 Email: DelMGriffith@house.state.va.us Delegate David Nutter (R-Montgomery County)Phone: (804) 698-1007 Email: DelDNutter@house.state.va.us Delegate Charles Poindexter (R-Franklin County)Phone: (804) 698-1009 Email: DelCPoindexter@house.state.va.us Delegate Lynwood Lewis (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1000Email: DelLLewis@house.state.va.us Delegate Brian Moran (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1046Email: DelBMoran@house.state.va.us Delegate Terry Kilgore (R-Lee County)Phone: (804) 698-1001Email: DelTKilgore@house.state.va.us Delegate Clifford (Clay) Athey (R-Fauquier County)Phone: (804) 698-1018Email: DelCAthey@house.state.va.us Delegate Donald Merricks (R-Pittsylvania County)Phone: (804) 698-1016Email: DelDMerricks@house.state.va.us Delegate Paula Miller (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1087Email: DelPMiller@house.state.va.us Delegate Thomas (Tommy) Wright Jr. (R-Victoria)Phone: (804) 698-1061Email: DelTWright@house.state.va.us Delegate William Janis (R-Goochland)Phone: (804) 698-1056Email: DelBJanis@house.state.va.us Delegate James Scott (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1053Email: DelJScott@house.state.va.us Delegate David Poisson (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1032Email: DelDPoisson@house.state.va.us Delegate Charles (Bill) Carrico (R-Grayson County)Phone: (804) 698-1005Email: DelCCarrico@house.state.va.us Delegate Benjamin Cline (R-Amherst)Phone: (804) 698-1024Email: DelBCline@house.state.va.us Delegate William Barlow (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1064Email: DelWBarlow@house.state.va.us Delegate Roslyn Tyler (Democrat)Phone: (804) 698-1075Email: DelRTyler@house.state.va.us
