The original story:
Transportation Crisis?
You bet we have a transportation crisis.
It seems the gorgeous luxury vehicle you see before you was being driven by an equally gorgeous young blond. Which is intriguing. And it had those "OFFICIAL STATE USE ONLY" license tags on the rear, as you can plainly see (I've removed the license number to protect the innocent - me).
Which is far more intriguing.
Someone tell me the hardpressed people of Virginia are not outfitting our government officials in luxury vehicles. Please.
There is an explanation for this, and I'd like to know it. What is the standard practice here in the commonwealth with regard to providing transportation for our employees? If this is some politician's personal vehicle, can he or she go out and lease a luxury Cadillac and have all or a portion of the monthly bill reimbursed by the state? Do the "official use only" plates" allow that politician to avoid paying the confiscatory license tag fee?
Tell me we don't have a fleet of Cadillacs (and Lexuses and Infinitis and ...) cruising around out there, paid for by people who are struggling mightily to make ends meet.
Please.
We deserve answers. Yours would be appreciated.

Good post. That indeed is interesting. Last I saw the Governor didn't get a Cadillac to use.
Interestingly I have seen here in Abingdon that the DMME has several Toyota 4 Runner SUVs with state tags. Those are pricey vehicles too. Maybe the Kaine Administration is buying pricier vehicles lately in the middle of the "transportation crisis"?
Jerry, with regard to your query about the ER accident: all I know is that a man and woman in a pick-up truck pulled out in front of the fire truck which was en route to another accident. The fire truck driver sustained minor injuries but the couple died. It happened in the vicinity of Kelley's Market, which is a country store with a gas station and a grille featuring burgers, etc. (Darn good cheeseburgers, too.) Said store is roughly 2 miles north of the Great and Grand New Eagle Rock Swamp and Mosquito Factory on US 220 en route to Clifton Forge. (Courtesy of your state gov't. road fund, which, I've heard is in "crisis".) Which still doesn't 'splain the Caddy, likely purchased for our betters.
Can we blame VDOT for the accident?
As you may remember, my son is a firefighter over in Roanoke. He was telling me about it. I thought you'd have the details. Thanks.
