Is this the Warner who thinks, and says, "the NRA, people who believe in the right to life, and Christians are what is wrong with America"?
Firefighter
He was in Montgomery County this morning, Pulaski before lunch and on to Wytheville and Abingdon this afternoon. He drew huge crowds. Get used to Warner being around for a long time and if McSame manages to pull a victory out of his ass (which is highly unlikely), then it will be Mark Warner that will run against him in 4 years. Warner is the first Democrat in 50 years to consistently win in the 9th District. I'm sorry you from the Radical Right don't like it, but you may as well move on to another race because Warner has now managed to get the the Boucher level of electability, i.e., he will not lose.
You put Warner in the same bag with Boucher. Works for me.
First and foremost the State GOP needs to realy take a step back and examine why it Obama leads Mccain by on average six points recently but Gilmore trails by 29 pts.
This is the window into the future for the State GOP. The Party needs to transition from a focus on social conservative ideology and return to fiscal conservatism.
I truly believe on the national scene we will see a resurgance of Gingrich should Obama win. Newt will be the conservative check and balance for this Congress from outside in the coming four years. Huckabee could be another because both are the best and most articulate in the Party right now.
The State GOP needs to ask why it is Republicans here in VA will be voting for Warner.
As to Warner rise outside of Senate. Warner bombed on the big stage that Obama at in 2004 in the keynote address. Any objective person could read that his bipartisan tone did not and will never recinate with the liberal wing of the Democrat Party and this wing is the strongest in the Primary season. He is a moderate and they get crushed everytime in the Primary of that Party.
What might also be in play here is the plot of an Eddie Murphy movie titled, The Distinguished Gentleman. A long time Senator dies right before the election. Murphy's character has the same name and runs in his place. His name wins big.
There are enough people out there who pay no attention to anything concerning politics. Now we have Warner running for Warner's seat. You have to believe that more than a few will pull the lever for Warner, because they did it last time around. Same goes for being asked on a phone poll.
