Want To Make Matters Worse?

We are at a point in time when tax increases would crush any opportunity for a turnaround in the Obama economy here in Virginia.  Yet Tim Kaine - Democrat - suggests just that - a massive tax increase - in the budget proposal he just sent to the legislature.

He's leaving soon, right?

Here's Lt. Governor Bill Bolling's response (from a press release) that I think is spot on:
“In his budget the Governor has proposed spending reductions in almost every agency of state government. I know that these were not easy decisions to make, but in tough economic times the state must do what families and businesses have had to do, set spending priorities and make certain that we are not spending more money than we are taking in."

“Unfortunately, in addition to these spending reductions the Governor's budget also includes well over $1B a year in higher taxes on Virginia's families and businesses. This is the wrong approach. Families and businesses are already overburdened and they cannot afford to pay higher taxes."

“In last month’s elections, Virginia voters made clear that they do not support higher taxes. Governor-elect McDonnell and I have made clear that we do not support higher taxes. The House of Delegates has made clear that they do not support higher taxes. In fact, I seriously question whether or not the Governor can get the 21 Democrats in the State Senate to support higher taxes in these challenging economic times."

“By including these significant tax increases in his budget, the Governor has presented an unrealistic and politically unachievable budget that will not be supported by the General Assembly or the people of Virginia. I encourage the General Assembly to look for ways to remove these tax increases from the budget and make certain that the budget is balanced through additional spending reductions, not higher taxes.”

“We look forward to working with Republicans and Democrats in the General Assembly to craft an acceptable budget that keeps faith with the people of Virginia and reflects the fiscal realities that confront not only state government, but families and businesses as well.”
Democrats never seem to take into account who it is that suffers when taxes are increased.  All they seem to care about is the preservation of the monolith - the government they hold dear.

e care for family first. And Virginia families are hurting. A situation Kaine and his bunch don't care at all about.

Here's to Bill Bolling and his victorious Virginia Republican Party. Long may they reign.

Maybe he needs the extra money after he unilaterally extended health care benefits a few weeks ago to same-sex partners of state employees.

Salt Lick: Kaine doesn't need money for the health care proposal nor did he do it unilaterally. It is nothing like what you described but then again you probably don't care. You hear same sex and your brain stops working.

Sounds like a good deal for the people who need it, the state, and the health care system.

From The Washington Post
The proposal, which comes weeks before Kaine leaves office, would expand benefits to qualified adults who live in the same house as an insured state employee. Those adults could include heterosexual and homosexual partners, roommates, children and other family members, such as an aunt or grandfather.

Sara Wilson, director of the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management, said officials hope to offer the expanded benefit at no additional expense to the state because employees would be required to pay the entire cost. She said that state officials have been discussing the proposal for months but that she was not directed until mid-November to begin implementing the change.

Bub -- A majority of Virginians are against same-sex marriage and civil unions. I agree with them on the marriage issue, but not the civil unions issue. I don't believe however, that I, or any elected official, should
circumvent the legislative process to enact law. This is what Democrats do on a regular basis these days.

"Hopes?" LOL! ("He who lives on hope dies farting" -- Ben Franklin.)

I worked for the state at one time. I know just how good the state's health insurance is. I know how everything is covered. There is no way in hell that allowing workers to add everyone in their household to their policy will be cost efficient. And it will only make it harder to increase deductibles if this become necessary. Kaine's ploy is just another Democrat trick to redistribute wealth and bond voters to their party.

Given our present economic tragedy, it's insane that we continue to pile on yet more policies which will increase debt and taxpayer burdens. And yes, Kaine's new budget proposal seeks a billion dollars in new taxes instead of making hard choices about cutting spending.

Someone needs to get serious about fiscal responsibility.

Salt Lick: Once again, what is being proposed is that members of the household of state employees may "buy" (as in fork over money) state health insurance as apposed to being added to the state employee's policy as if they were an immediate family member.

Based on McDonnell's impressive victory (it was a real butt kicking), Jerry seems confident (a la Karl Rove)that Virginia will be in Republican hands for generations to come so there shouldn't be any need to fear that this program would be expanded and wind up costing the state taxpayers money.
