They Can't Be Serious

Either they're joking or they're fools.  You decide.

In a New York Times editorial today ("What They’re Not Telling You"):

"The deficit’s size is alarming."

"We agree the situation is unsustainable. But ..."

Alarming.  Unsustainable.  But.  But?

But nothing!  The debt is alarming and unsustainable and we need to take immediate action or this country is doomed.

And the New Yawk T.P. solution is: (fanfare) raise taxes and impose new ones like VAT. Don't cut non-defense spending or bureaucracy like (heaven forbid) useless agencies such as the Department of Education. Navy ships etc. cost too much as does the military retirement system and Tricare. Get 'em boys while we steal some more from Social Security and small business.
