Be Careful

There's something lurking ...

Actually, lurking is the wrong word.

Hiding may be a better word.

I've learned over the years to be really careful when I start mowing the back forty in early June. The deer have started having their babies, and they'll drop them most anywhere. Including right in the middle of a hay field or grass pasture.

Take a look at this little guy, just hours old:

You don't see anything?   Neither did I when my tractor and mower deck drove past this fawn with the tire and blades coming within ten inches of his/her little body.

A closer look:

Even when I came up to it with my camera, it never moved. Only its chest heaving up and down let me know that it was even alive.

Only hours old, its instinct is to remain motionless and hope for the best.  Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.

Mama deer, if you're wondering, will generally abandon their young'uns during the day and will reunite with them in the evening.  Somehow that seems to work.  I rarely find the bones or carcass of a newborn.

And that's fine with me.

I just wish there was an easier way to spot them before I'm right upon them with my tractor.

That Was Then

This is now.

Obama, back when he was campaigning: "They are not going to dominate my White House."

"They" being Washington lobbyists.

The ones who are now dominating his White House:

Tsk. Tsk.

The Turks Will Rue The Day

This seems fair.  Turkey wants aid sent to Gaza despite the Israeli blockade.

Israelis are wondering how the Turks will respond when they send a flotilla to Istanbul with aid to Turkey's repressed minority in Armenia.

I'm sure the descendents of those who brought about the Armenian genocide will welcome Israeli aid with open arms.

Sure they will.

Quote of the Day

From Glenn Reynolds:
UPDATE: Richard Pollock: The Washington Post Keeps Rockin’, Hides Helen Thomas’ Bigotry. Hey, it’s not like she’s a Republican who said “Macaca” or something . . .
The difference, Glenn, and the reason the Post has deemed Helen Thomas's hate-filled venom directed at the world's Jews to be less than newsworthy, is that Governor George Allen, when he called that Democratic operative a name known only at the time to a tiny tribe of nomads in the north African desert - Macaca! - was being mean-spirited (even though he hadn't a clue what the word he used meant), making him a bigot of the worst kind.  Thomas is a liberal.  So her heart is in the right place.  If her brain is not.

Hollywood, Land of Illusion

It's a good thing brains aren't a prerequisite for landing film gigs.  Otherwise:
Ashton Kutcher on the BP oil spill: “If you could go back to the Republican National Convention and look the guys in the eyes that were saying, ‘DRILL, DRILL, DRILL,’ at the Republican National Convention, those guys, there you go… that’s what we got, like, we did it, we drilled drilled drilled.”

Of course, the oil rig — and nearly 4,000 others like it — was already there. But why argue with a guy who has to drive one of those rigs to prove his manhood?
See "Ashton Kutcher: 7 MPG conservationist."

Where do they find these guys?

When Thugs Are Allowed To Roam Free

It seems appropriate to post this quote from a career attorney who is being forced out of the Voting Section in the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice because he stood up to voter intimidation in spite of the fact that that intimidation was coming from the New Black Panther Party on the day that Obama is quoted as wanting to abandon the role of president and revert to his days as being a street thug wannabe* (See "Obama Looking for 'Ass to Kick' for Oil Spill"):
During the Bush years, there were at least some checks and a partial balance on this out-of-control bureaucracy. However, this is no longer the case. One by one, the new administration is methodically forcing out anyone who dares to disagree with its radical agenda. One can only hope that, eventually, the public will take note of these excesses and help throw these rascals out.
I get confused.  Since the government is shielding the thugs who terrorized voters at that polling place in Philadelphia in 2008, is voter intimidation not a bad thing then?

* Longing for his days as Super Fly?

May God have mercy.

Spare Me

Mr. Tough Guy:

""I don't sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick."

People the world over are cowering in fear.  Obama is kicking ass.

To laugh.
