Why do these guys get so off message, opening the door for flaming liberals to make these statements?
Diane Sawyer 'Couldn't Believe' Santorum Challenged JFK on Separation of Church and State
When I read it, I couldn't believe it either. Why would Santorum pick a fight with an American icon (whether deserving of the title or not) who's been dead for six decades? Surely it was something Santorum said long ago. Or his comment about Kennedy was taken out of context. Or it was misconstrued.
But no. He meant it.
Focus, man. Focus. You make it too easy for lowlifes like Dianne Sawyer.

I haven't read the statement but I doubt if he meant it the way Obama-ayers BM have interpreted it. (Always consider the source and whether a "news" story has been artfully edited.)The Constitution says nothing about the liberal courts concoction of "separation of church and state" despite the fact that so many folks think it does. It simply declares that Congress may not establish a state religion like England has, nor will our tax dollars support it. Our tax dollars support many things which are not Constitutionally permitted but like the now sacred Doctrine of Separation of Church and State, we've become mired in them. Kennedy was clearly trying to avoid being smeared like Al Smith was many years ago and wanted to make it clear that he and any other Catholic candidates would take no orders or direction from the Pope or any other churchperson. He, and many other leading lights in the political arena did value the friendship and advice of the Rev. Billy Graham, et al without having him/them give orders about Presidential decisions. It seems clear to me that one can hardly separate one's life experiences, including one's religion from the whole person who is making (supposedly morally principled) decisions. (The caveat is made with Obama-ayers in mind because the Founders could hardly have expected we'd elect a little tin god president.)
