The Left Brain vs The Right Brain

Make sense of this ditty out of Democrat Land ("Montgomery County School Board is tired of shortfall"):
Undaunted by warnings of a record real estate tax increase — and spurred by Occupy movement supporters' urgings not to cut education — the Montgomery County School Board voted Tuesday to add a pay increase and 16 positions to its budget request.

The unanimous decision increases pressure on county supervisors, who are already looking at the largest tax increase in years to pay for new school construction.

"Government is doing everything it can to shortchange public education," veteran school board member Penny Franklin said. "We've got to put our foot down."
The Montgomery County School Board votes for (considerable) (expensive) school construction, which county supervisors acquiesced to. Then the board's members complain that there's no money in their budget for new "positions" or a pay increase.  And it's all "government's" fault.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Matthew 7:16-20, King James Version
Ye shall know these fruits by the fruits they bring forth.

Love that "logic". The fruits on the school board are going to put their "foot down" on a county which can't cover its' expenses. That'll show 'em. Lessee, we scraped by that iceberg so, let's go back and hit it at fool speed. Ya think ole Penny raised her kids that way? "Mom, I want a car". Penny: "Honey, we can't meet the payments on the family car.....Okay, do you want a Lexus?" Smells to me like she's got the Obama-ayers disease.

Follow the money guys - the state is backing off its support of position funding and capital support for public schools thus forcing more of the burden to the property tax.

what we have here is the first of many stories to come on this swapping of how we fund public responsibilities. One can make the case that montgomery county officials didn't plan well enough for replacement schedules, but the hr side is almost entirely state driven.

Fair enough, anon. If the state can't afford to fund excessive "school" expenses, the county should cut back also. Re-think the "needs" of the county with regard to schools. Don't just blow the dough on nice to have things regardless of the available money or reflexively increase taxes.

Ah, but the state is keeping the mandates in place that require things like employer matches for retirement, scaled staffing requirements, SOL's and a whole host of costs that the local governments are required to do, but not provided the money to do it with.

The Virginia state republicans are great at screaming about mandates, but very poor at reducing them at the local government level.

If we want to play "Scripture Game" of finding the Word that suits our tastes at the moment, at least if Montgomery County passes this tax increase it will be easier for people to get into Heaven (camel, eye of a needle). :)

Ah, but the state shouldn't keep mandates in place which mess up county budgets. Shouldn't we taxsufferers point this out to our representatives and ask for relief? The Republicans have a lot of cleanup to do wouldn'tcha say? As for the quote, I presume it's from the Obama-ayers version of Mark where the evil, rich guy never can get into Heaven.

I'm trying to understand how that can be construed to mean people are supposed to write checks to that government entity that doesn't plan well.
