My Heart Bleeds

One-hit wonder Paul Begala, who's only claim to fame is his (minor) assistance in getting Bill Clinton elected President a long, long time ago, bemoans the fact that the people of Indiana bounced (non-Hoosier) Richard Lugar from office last month.

Begala (in "Dick Lugar's Fate Shows When Right Is Wrong"):
It was not liberals who ended the career of Richard Lugar. The longest-serving Republican in the Senate was unceremoniously dumped last week by the Tea Party fringe. He was not, as the saying goes, caught with a dead girl or a live boy. He was just too doggone moderate, too ready to compromise with the Democrats. Thanks for that, Senator Lugar. Oh, and you’re fired.

Today’s Republicans are different. They truly have put partisanship ahead of patriotism, as the political scientists Norman Ornstein and Thomas Mann document in their book, Even Worse Than it Looks. “The GOP,” they write, “has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence, and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition.”
It is permitted to laugh now.

The only words I can come up with in reaction to this silly whine are delusional and petulant.

The GOP is an outlier*?  Are these people serious?

Is that the same GOP that swept candidates to victory in elections across this land in the last election and now holds the majority of state legislatures and most governorships?  And handed the Democratic Party its worst loss in 62 years?  That outlier?

And we - the Tea Party movement - are "unpatriotic" because we choose to no longer support Republican candidates with long records of going along with the Democrats' efforts to destroy the country we love and intend to fight for?  That's an odd definition of  the word "unpatriotic," isn't it?

Here's reality: Dick Lugar was finally sent packing because the people of Indiana have joined the rest of Middle America in saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.  YOU AND YOUR DEMOCRAT BUDDIES HAVE DONE THIS NATION GREAT HARM.  BE GONE.

Paul Begala never struck me as being very bright.  This is proof.

We can now add to his lack of intelligence his inability to control his inner girlie-man.

Waaaah.  The Republicans won't do what we tell them to do any longer.  The big meanies.

Now there's an argument that will sway the masses.

One more thing for these really smart Democrats to load their Depends on:

"Discouraged Democrat Voters May Mean Historic Sweep for GOP."

That would be the fringe "outlier" GOP.

* The word "outlier," in the world of statistics, means "an extreme deviation from the mean."
**“The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics."   I still chuckle.
