James Webb Stuck On Stupid

When is this guy leaving us again? Soon?

Webb co-sponsors bill to raise federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.80

Says Webb:

"Lower income workers continue to get squeezed by stagnant wages and rising cost of living. In the age of globalization and outsourcing, the average American worker is seeing a different life and a troubling future. While corporate profits are ... [blah blah blah]"

A couple of points:

1) If raising the minimum wage is such a great idea, why to just $9.80?  Why not 30 bucks an hour and really solve their problems?

2) Speaking of their problems - it ain't that they're not making enough on the job.  It's that they have no job to make minimum wage at, genius.  See "Just 54 percent of Americans ages 18 to 24 currently have jobs, according to a study released Thursday by the Pew Research Center. That's the lowest employment rate for this age group since the government began keeping track in 1948. And it's a sharp drop from the 62 percent who had jobs in 2007 ... "

It's worth noting, not that James Webb is smart enough to pick up on it, that that sharp drop in youth employment (think minimum wage earners) occurred the same year as did the last increase in the minimum wage.

So Webb votes to increase the hourly wage of America's youth and America's youth ends up with no wage. Way to go, Sherlock.

Said Webb at the time:

"Raising the minimum wage is one of the centerpieces of my economic fairness agenda."

Why don't you be really "fair" to those you put out of work, Jim, and take them out back and shoot them?
