IMPORTANT CHANGES TO VOTING ON ELECTION DAY

By now, many of you have heard about recent changes to Virginia's voter identification laws which require all voters to provide an acceptable form of identification (ID) at the polls. Voters arriving to the polls without ID will be required to vote a provisional ballot and will have until noon on the Friday after the election to deliver a copy of identification to their locality's electoral board in order for their provisional ballot to be counted. The State Board of Elections has provided a chart outlining what ID's are acceptable: http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/Files/Cast Your Ballot/VotingInPerson/Voter Identification_8_12_v4.pdf

Acceptable forms of identification include the following:
Virginia voter registration card
Valid Virginia driver's license
Military ID
Any Federal, Virginia state or local government-issued ID
Employer issued photo ID card
Concealed handgun permit
Valid student ID issued by any institution of higher education located in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Current utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck indicating the name and address of the voter
Social Security card (refer to chart mentioned above to see if social security card applies as it does not satisfy special federal ID requirements)

The State Board of Elections (SBE) has undertaken a major voter outreach program to inform the public of the new voter identification requirements including a new website, www.sbe.virginia.gov

SBE also has designed new voter registration cards for all of the Commonwealth's active registered voters. The cards will arrive in the mail beginning September 19th with an expected delivery completion date of October 2, 2012.

IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR NEW VOTER REGISTRATION CARD BY OCTOBER 10TH PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL REGISTRAR
