Do They Really Think That'll Work?

The very liberal - and really smart - leadership in the city of Philadelphia has come up with a plan to make city dwellers there less fat.  They are going to put "healthy" foods - "apples, oranges, chips, candy ..." -  in 632 mom-and-pop grocery stores around town to provide an alternative to the normal fare.

Cost to the taxpayers?  Something short of a million bucks.

A social engineer's dream, right?  Put it on the counter and they'll buy it and everyone will be healthy.

Only problem?

The targeted audience won't cooperate.  Unless people have a gun to their heads.  Or unless everything else is wiped from the counter (google "light bulb ban") (google "Michael Bloomberg") (or unless the produce is subsidized and made dirt-cheap - google "Chevy Volt").

Do these really smart liberals think those 632 grocers - if there was a buck to be made - wouldn't have healthy foods in massive quantities on the counter already?  My experience with retail businesspersons leads me to believe that they would put shit-in-a-boot on the shelf if shoppers chose to but it and they could make a profit from it.  What, they think Manuel at the Michoacana Mexican Mercado has an aversion to lettuce and that's why he doesn't stock it?

It's not the presence - or lack thereof - of goods that influences one's buying habits.  It's the choices the consumer chooses to make.

Or the gun-to-the-head thing.

That's why you can expect the city of Philadelphia to soon abandon this silly bit of whimsy and adopt Nanny Bloomberg's approach to healthy living - ban everything except leaves and twigs (and Starbucks) and the people will be made whole.  Whether they like it or not.

Bottom line: The citizenry in Philadelphia is - by and large - fat by choice.  Putting lettuce on the shelf next to their favorite candy bar isn't going to change a thing.

* Philadelphia is the poorest city in America.  And its citizens are fat.  Historians will marvel a hundred years from now at that incongruity.

The Real Problem With Sex-Selection Abortion

It's not just that babies are killed because their parents wanted a different gender.  It's because that unwanted gender that results in termination of the fetus is nearly always female.

Mallika Kaur: "Lost in the sex-selective abortion debate."

Feminists hold their "right to choose" high, as if it were some kind of modern-day Roman standard of empowerment.

The problem?   The "choice" is most often evidence of the opposite.  Disempowerment.  Girls in sex-selective abortions are usually the "choice" to be snuffed.

Not that it really matters to those women holding their cherished standard high ...

Say it ain't so:

Put it back in its holster, babe.  The dudes you might attract with such a stunt have all had their Depends changed and been strapped into bed for the night.

I wonder if Netflix has this in its inventory ...

So bad its entertaining?

Hey, it can't be any worse than "Bridesmaids," can it?

Obama May Not Be a Card-Carrying Socialist ...

... but, for some reason, he sure seems to attract them.

"President Obama has received yet another endorsement, this time from the daughter of Cuban military dictator Raúl Castro. [Communist Party official] Mariela Castro proclaimed her support for the sitting president 10 days ago, during a visit to the United States. 'I believe that Obama needs another opportunity and he needs greater support to move forward with his projects and with his ideas, which I believe come from the bottom of his heart,' she said in a CNN interview in New York."

Now that in itself doesn't make him a socialist (or communist).

But shouldn't this?
Activist recalls president's time with radical Chicago political group
By Aaron Klein, WND

Jerusalem – President Obama participated in a controversial 1990s political party with a socialist agenda, recalls a major member of the organization known as the New Party.

WND previously reported on newspaper evidence showing Obama was a member of the New Party, which sought to elect members to public office with the aim of moving the Democratic Party far leftward to ultimately form a new political party with a socialist agenda.

Now a former top member of the New Party recounted in a WND e-mail interview Obama’s participation with his organization.

“A subcommittee met with (Obama) to interview him to see if his stand on the living wage and similar reforms was the same as ours,” recalled Marxist activist Carl Davidson.

“We determined that our views on these overlapped, and we could endorse his campaign in the Democratic Party,” Davidson said.

Davidson was a Chicago member and activist within the New Party. He told WND he handled some of the New Party member databases and attending most of the party’s meetings.

Davidson is also a notorious far-left activist and former radical national leader in the anti-Vietnam movement. He served as national secretary for the infamous Students of a Democratic Society antiwar group, from which the Weatherman domestic terrorist organization later splintered.

Davidson remembers Obama attending one New Party meeting to thank attendees for voting for him.

Davidson said that to his knowledge Obama was not a member of the New Party “in any practical way” – using qualifying language.

Many of the New Party’s founding members were Democratic Socialists of America leaders and members of Committees of Correspondence, a breakaway of the Communist Party USA.

Obama attended several DSA events and meetings, including a DSA-sponsored town hall meeting Feb. 25, 1996, entitled “Employment and Survival in Urban America.” He sought and received an endorsement from the DSA. [link]
Then, more recently, there was this:

And then, of course, there's ObamaCare.

His excuse-makers will argue that he was never a member of the socialist New Party here in the USA. But does that mean he's not a socialist?

There's plenty of bases on which to support the notion that our President is of a mind with Karl Marx. The affiliation with (and endorsement from) the Marxist New Party in the 90's is but one - strong - bit of evidence.

- - -

A few parting questions: Why does it take the alternative media to bring this news about Obama's connections to a Marxist political party to us?  Do the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS not have reporters any more?  Or is there something else being signaled by their silence?

This Is What It Boils Down To

Forget the first part of this babble from Nia-Malika Henderson of the Washington Post, who appeared on The Chris Matthews Show over the weekend. It's your typical "if you say bad things about Obama, you're a racist" baloney. But it's the last sentence that hits the nail on the head. It explains his lingering popularity (in a few remaining circles) despite all the evidence to date that he's a colossal failure.

I think, in some ways, the way race might play a role - I think you're right, that the people who don't like Obama because he's black or because they think he's not eligible to be President or he's the other, they're not going to support him.

And I think, if Superpacs, if Fox News, if they sort of hint at that sort of language, I think it's going to turn independents off from Republicans. I think that's the danger that Republicans and people from the far right play, is going to be a blowback because a lot of women, especially, I think, they do, you know, take some pride in this idea that their kids are growing up in this country with an African-American President.
That's it. Nothing more. Obama's (half-)black. Be proud.  Vote to reelect him.

The fact that the USA is on a downward slide with real wages lower today than they were 12 years ago, with 14 million Americans out of work and another 9.3 million underemployed, and a national debt that has soared beyond anyone's ability to comprehend, yeah, let's support Obama because he's black.

My God. Where do they get these people?

What's Missing From This Story?

The story, from the Associated Press this morning:
Police probe crashes linked to commerce secretary

San Gabriel, Calif. (AP) — Police are investigating two traffic collisions allegedly caused by U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson in the Los Angeles area that left him injured and unconscious, authorities said Monday.

One of the crashes was under investigation as a felony hit and run, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department and the San Gabriel Police Department said.

Bryson, 68, was treated at a hospital for non life-threatening injuries following the crashes around 5 p.m. PDT Saturday, the agencies said in a joint statement.

Bryson was driving alone in a Lexus on a major street in San Gabriel when he allegedly struck the rear end of a vehicle occupied by three males that had been stopped for a passing train.

The secretary spoke briefly with the occupants and then hit their car again as he departed, the officials said. The three followed him while calling police.

"The preliminary investigation indicates the collision was caused by suspect John Bryson, who is the United States Secretary of Commerce," the statement said.

Bryson then allegedly caused a second collision minutes later, also on San Gabriel Boulevard, in the nearby city of Rosemead, striking a car occupied by a man and a woman, the police agencies said.

Bryson was found alone and unconscious in his car and was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital.

There was no immediate indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the collisions, the agencies said. [link]
So what's missing from the story?

What's the one thing that would be on everyone's mind after reading it?

How about blood alcohol level?
