Senseless Waste

The pledge made by a different commander to his troops long ago haunts me:

"I will not waste you."

Waste - tragic, senseless waste - of America's best and brightest is exactly what headlines coming out of Afghanistan screams these days.

The latest:

All six troops killed in a weekend roadside bombing in eastern Afghanistan were Americans, NATO confirmed Monday.

Why were these sons of American families sacrificed?

Ostensibly so that we could leave the battlefield some day with honor.  Or something.

My God.

This Is No Accident

While Obama brags about the number of unemployed citizens to whom he's been able to provide food stamps ...

In 2010, influenced by the Tea Party and its focus on fiscal issues, 17 states elected Republican governors. And, according to an Examiner.com analysis, every one of those states saw a drop in their unemployment rates since January of 2011.

To be fair, every state that elected a Democrat the same year also had declines in their unemployment rate(s) - except New York, where the unemployment rate rose.  The difference is in the fact that the declines in Democrat states weren't nearly as robust.

Close to the top on the list of rebounding states?  Alabama.

Why Alabama?

See "Airbus to Manufacture Planes in Alabama."

See "MERCEDES: MADE IN ALABAMA THE GERMAN CARMAKER IS BUILDING SPORT-UTILITY VEHICLES AT A SPARKLING NEW PLANT IN THE DEEP SOUTH. IT'S A MODEL OF HOW TO SET UP A TRULY GLOBAL OPERATION."

Besides some other advantages, Alabama offers employers low taxes and a dynamic "right-to-work" law.

Meanwhile in New York, where they just raised taxes again ...

Beyond The Unemployment Numbers ...

What have I been telling you all along is a more revealing statistic about how well our economy is doing than are the monthly unemployment figures?

The employment figures.

To that end, check out the latest, from renowned Harvard economist Professor Greg Mankiw (you'll want to click on it to enlarge it):

President Obama calls this "a step in the right direction."

To everyone else, it's "we're mired in the sewer."

Problem is, as the Washington Post outlined the other day, Obama has no plan to make his "recovery" actually start recovering.  It's the same old, same old.

As the chart clearly indicates, four more years of Obama will bring ... four more years of ... awful.

There's Some Serious Beef In This Video

And there was apparently a serious beef that lead to an amusing wrestling match between a bunch of ... beefy Little League baseball enthusiasts.  I'm supposed to be shocked or dismayed, I'm sure.  But I find it kinda heartwarming:

Fight at Britt David Park embarrassing for city of Columbus [Georgia], says league administrator

Looked like a large handful of very large guys having a good time to me.

They sure grow 'em big in Georgia. Watch closely and see if you can find even one leaf eater in the crowd.

I'll reserve a few moments later to shocked - shocked! - by the circumstances..

Ya Get What Ya Vote For

In Australia citizens voted for the kind of loons who held the now discredited belief that carbon dioxide caused "global warming."  The loons, as soon as they took over, passed a carbon tax with the intention of solving a problem that was never a problem.

And so ...

[Australian] Family slugged with 'carbon tax fee' for funeral

Here in America we have a similar bunch of knuckleheads running things.  And we complain about what they're doing to us.

Well, who's fault is it they're there screwing this country up?

Look in the mirror, dude, and quit whining.

A Real Treasure

Thank God there's no shelf life on "Old Crow." Making this a nice find:

Missouri Man's Attic Yields Century-Old Whiskey

Though I can't match that, I can declare a 46-year-old bottle of "Kentucky Nectar" bourbon sits on a bookshelf here in my den, with its tax stamp from 1966 still intact.

Maybe I'll bust it open some day and partake.  Maybe I won't ...

There's a Metaphor Lurking Here

An aura of profligacy seems to surround our President wherever he goes:

Hey, it's just money.  Get over it.

Right, Barry?
