Quotes From The Left

Joy Behar:

"I feel this country is going downhill because of people like Akin and Ryan and Romney. They’re trying to kill us and destroy us."

Which is why both are running for the highest offices in the land. To kill Joy Behar.

●  Former New York Times columnist Bob Herbert:

"You know, Mitt Romney has so many problems. He’s an unappealing candidate. He’s not a very good politician, and he’s running a campaign without a message. It’s a campaign that doesn’t have a theme. So what he’s essentially doing is going all over the place, saying, you know, white people, please vote for me."

Guess I must have missed that TV spot.  Which is kinda sad.  Mitt Romney has spent $67 million on campaign ads and his theme - "white people, please vote for me" - I completely missed.

●  A retweet from actress Ellen Barkin:

"C’mon #Isaac! Wash every pro-life, anti-education, anti-woman, xenophobic, gay-bashing, racist SOB right into the ocean!"

Sweet, aren't they?

Upsetting The Democrats' Storyline

This must have soiled Chris Matthews' Depends.  A black man on stage in Tampa being cheered wildly by an appreciative mostly-white (racist, ahem ...) Republican convention audience?

To quote a famous American:

Yes, we can.

Artur Davis even attacks Obama's gutting of the work requirement in welfare.  Which makes him a ...

... in the eyes of MSNBC's blinded-by-hate talk show host, anyway.

Confused?  Or simply stupid?  You decide.

- - -

Then there's the face of the GOP that the media will never let you see:

Good-lookin'. Articulate. High achieving. Very conservative.

And black.  And female.

"This is our America because we built it!"

From a black woman?  In the land ruled by the KKK?

How the media and the Democrats must be trembling at the prospect.

Odd How The Media Narrative Plays Out

Obama's buddies - the mainstream press - have been pushing this theme for days now:

"CNN's John Berman, reporting live from the floor of the GOP convention, asked a Louisiana delegate if it wasn't 'inappropriate' for the Republican Party to continue the convention on Tuesday night with Hurricane Isaac set to make landfall in Louisiana."

But where's the president "with Hurricane Isaac set to make landfall in Louisiana"?

"On the campaign trail for a two-day college tour, Obama highlighted ..."

Doing what he does best - running for office.  Louisiana and its hurricane be damned.

I'm going to hold my breath until CNN's John Berman asks if it is appropriate for the president to be out campaigning under the circumstances.

I'm holding my breath ...

Obama Detached From Reality

At the same point in time that he's pushing this ...

"The federal government finalized new automobile efficiency rules today for cars and light trucks for model years 2017–2025. The rules require an average fuel economy of 54.5 miles per gallon (mpg) in 2025."

... the buying public is responding with this:

"GM has suspended production of the all-electric [Chevy Volt] for a month so they can retool the plant to make more Chevy Impalas.  But not many are buying the company’s explanation or the car, for that matter."*

For a brief moment I'm going to feel sorry for America's auto executives.  They are getting it from both sides - a foolhardy president who thinks he can dictate that which the free market should be and a free market that simply will not accept that which the president is dictating.

Where will this end?  With a change of leadership in Washington.  With leaders who realize their limitations.  With politicians who accept the fact that they can't alter the alignment of the moon and the stars.

"Welcome to Obama’s green economy where products that sell can’t be made – and the ones that are made, don’t sell."

* The big questions are: Will GM's Hamtramck plant ever make another Volt?  And will anyone care if it doesn't?

Let Me Put It Another Way. Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow!

Maybe it's just me, but ...
"Stop and get off the [police] officer."

The verbal commands are ignored.

Mr. Stevens fires four shots, all of which struck Mr. Temple.

He again orders Mr. Temple to stop what he was doing and get off the officer.
I think, after I'd been shot in the gut the second or third time, I'd have gotten off the officer.

As it turns out?  A fifth shot - this one to the head - got him off of the officer.  Forever.

Out Of The Past

Here's a headline you don't see too often anymore:

World War II bomb closes part of Amsterdam airport

There are still undetonated bombs to be found across Europe.  They slowly, one by one, surface.

Okay. That's A Bit Extreme.

I've been saying for years now that, when it comes to educating - and not educating - America's youth, I don't blame teachers.  And I don't blame the system.  I don't even blame Obama.

I blame the students.

For it's this country's students who choose to learn - or not to learn - in the twelve years they sit in a classroom.  Teachers can provide the tools.  But it's up to our young people to take hold of them and use them.

Which brings us to a teacher in Atlanta:

School: Teacher Helps Students Cheat Because She Says They’re ‘Dumb As Hell’

Though I appreciate the frustration that must have been behind that declaration on the part of math teacher Shayla Smith, it's a bit much to call her students "dumb."  Most of them are not dumb.

Disinterested.  Uninvolved.  Disengaged.  Antipathetic.  Unregenerate.  And ignorant.

But not dumb.

Expect the teacher to be punished.  And her students to continue to be disinterested, uninvolved, disengaged, antipathetic ...

On Obama's Auto Industry 'Success'

"I said, I believe in American workers, I believe in this American industry, and now the American auto industry has come roaring back. I don’t want those jobs taking root in places like China, I want those jobs taking root in places like Pueblo, [Colorado]”
-- Barack Obama, August 8, 2012 --
